† Grallistrix geleches — an extinct Hawaiian stilt-owl with reduced wings and elongated hindlimbs. Flightless nocturnal ground-predator; carnivorous hunter of small vertebrates in Hawaiian forests. Went extinct when Polynesian settlers arrived ~1000 CE, bringing rats and causing habitat destruction.
