Spinosaurus

The largest known predatory dinosaur, Spinosaurus aegyptiacus exceeded even Tyrannosaurus in length at around 15 meters and near 7,400 kilograms. A tall sail of elongated spines, reaching about 1.8 meters, rose along its back. Its long, narrow, crocodile-like jaws and recent skeletal discoveries point to a semi-aquatic life spent hunting fish in river systems during the Early Cretaceous, roughly 145 to 100 million years ago. Ernst Stromer described this piscivore in 1912 from the Bahariya Oasis of Egypt, though much of the original material was destroyed during the Second World War, leaving the reconstruction of its full anatomy a continuing scientific challenge.
