†Dryolimnas augusti is an extinct rail bird closely related to the living Dryolimnas rails, found in the Mascarene or Indian Ocean island region. This flightless or near-flightless carnivorous rail inhabited island ecosystems and fed on invertebrates and small vertebrates. Its extinction likely resulted from introduced predators following European colonization of Indian Ocean islands.
Diet & Feeding
Dryolimnas augusti was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
