†Dryornis hatcheri is an extinct large carnivorous bird from Cenozoic deposits of Argentina, named after collector John Bell Hatcher. Classified as a teratornithid or large condor-relative, it soared over Patagonian plains preying on or scavenging carrion. Its Neogene South American occurrence documents the richness of large raptorial birds in pre-Pleistocene Patagonia.
Diet & Feeding
Dryornis hatcheri was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
