Steatornithidae is the avian family containing the oilbird (Steatornis caripensis), a cave-nesting frugivore of South America. Fossil steatornithids from the United States suggest the family had a wider Cenozoic distribution in the Western Hemisphere.
Diet & Feeding
Steatornithidae was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
