Bountyphaps obsoleta is an extinct large pigeon from Quaternary deposits, likely associated with Pacific island environments possibly including the Pitcairn Group. This herbivorous columbid bird represents part of the diverse Pacific island pigeon fauna decimated by Polynesian and European settlement. Large flightless or near-flightless pigeons evolved independently on numerous oceanic islands.
Diet & Feeding
Bountyphaps obsoleta was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
