Chenoanas asiatica

Chenoanas asiatica

Chenoanas asiatica is an extinct duck (Anatidae) from Miocene–Pliocene deposits of Mongolia, part of a diverse assemblage of fossil anatids recorded from Central Asian lake and river sediments. A dabbling duck, it fed on aquatic vegetation, seeds, and invertebrates in shallow steppe wetlands. Its discovery in Mongolia illuminates the Neogene history of waterfowl diversification on the Asian continent before the onset of Quaternary glaciations.
