Chenoanas deserta

Chenoanas deserta

Chenoanas deserta is an extinct duck (Anatidae) described from Neogene arid-zone deposits of Mongolia, its species name referencing the desert or steppe environment in which it was found. Likely a dabbling duck feeding on plant material in ephemeral wetlands, it represents the avifauna of the shrinking Paratethys lake systems of Central Asia. Its relationship to extant Asian dabbling ducks remains under phylogenetic investigation.
