Chenoanas sansaniensis

Chenoanas sansaniensis

Chenoanas sansaniensis is an extinct duck (Anatidae) from the Miocene of central Europe, named after the locality of Sansan. Known from Austrian Miocene lacustrine deposits, it inhabited warm Miocene lakes in subtropical Europe. A herbivore grazing on aquatic vegetation, it co-existed with diverse assemblages of herons, coots, and other waterfowl. It documents the European Miocene radiation of anatid ducks prior to the Pliocene cooling.
