An extinct genus of flightless goose from New Zealand, Cnemiornis was a large herbivorous waterfowl that evolved flightlessness in the predator-free island environment. These heavy-bodied geese grazed on New Zealand grasslands and shrublands until their extinction following Polynesian settlement, which brought predators and direct hunting pressure.
Diet & Feeding
Cnemiornis was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
