Baryonyx

Baryonyx walkeri

A massive thumb claw roughly 31 centimeters long gives Baryonyx walkeri its name, which means heavy claw. This spinosaurid stretched about 7.5 meters and near 1,700 kilograms, with a long, narrow, crocodile-like snout lined with conical teeth well suited to gripping slippery prey. Fish scales preserved in its stomach region confirm a substantially piscivorous diet, unusual among large theropods. It lived during the Early Cretaceous, roughly 145 to 100 million years ago. Alan Charig and Angela Milner described it in 1983 from a specimen found in Surrey, England, and it provided some of the first firm evidence that certain large predatory dinosaurs specialized in catching fish.
