Buteogallus fragilis

Buteogallus fragilis

† Buteogallus fragilis is an extinct hawk of the family Accipitridae from the Pleistocene of the United States. The species epithet 'fragilis' may reference the delicate or fragmentary nature of the fossil material from which it was described. A carnivorous raptor related to modern black-hawks (Buteogallus), it likely occupied wetland margins and riverine habitats, preying on fish, amphibians, and small vertebrates in Pleistocene North America.
