Camptodontornis yangi

Camptodontornis yangi

† Camptodontornis yangi was an Early Cretaceous enantiornithine bird from China. Enantiornithines were the dominant bird group of the Mesozoic, diverse and globally distributed, but they vanished at the end-Cretaceous mass extinction. Named for its curved teeth (Greek: kamptos, bent; odontos, tooth), this species was a small carnivorous tree-dweller feeding on insects, small vertebrates, or fish. Its Chinese provenance reflects the exceptional enantiornithine diversity of the Jehol Biota deposit
