Muttaburrasaurus

An enlarged, hollow, bulbous snout sets Muttaburrasaurus langdoni apart from other plant-eating ornithischians, and may have amplified calls or served in display. Known from one of the most complete dinosaur skeletons found in Australia, this herbivore measured about 7 meters and near 2,800 kilograms. Alan Bartholomai and Ralph Molnar described it in 1981 from Muttaburra, Queensland. It lived during the Early Cretaceous, roughly 145 to 100 million years ago, when Australia lay far to the south near the polar region, in a cooler and more seasonal world than most dinosaur habitats. Its remains are among the most significant dinosaur finds from the continent.
