† Camelotia was a large Late Triassic dinosauriform from Britain, known from fragmentary postcranial material. Initially described from isolated bones found in Somerset, England, it is considered a prosauropod-grade sauropodomorph of uncertain precise affinity. Its large size relative to other Late Triassic sauropodomorphs makes it notable, suggesting an early trend toward gigantism in this lineage. The name references the legendary Arthurian site of Camelot in Somerset.
Time Period
Camelotia lived during the Triassic Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 237.0 to 201.4 million years ago.
The first true dinosaurs appeared during the late Triassic, including early theropods like Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus. Dinosaurs were still small and not yet dominant. The period ended with the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event.
