<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="calidris-binagadensis"></dinofyi-dinosaur>† Calidris binagadensis is an extinct sandpiper from the Pleistocene asphalt deposits of Binagady, Azerbaijan. A member of the shorebird genus Calidris (family Scolopacidae), it was a carnivorous wader feeding on invertebrates in coastal and wetland habitats. The Binagady tar pits have yielded a rich Late Pleistocene fauna, and this sandpiper species documents the avian diversity of the Caspian region during the last glacial period.
Diet & Feeding
Calidris binagadensis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
