†Archaeospheniscus lowei was an Oligocene penguin from New Zealand, a medium-sized carnivorous diving seabird feeding on fish and cephalopods. Named in honor of naturalist F. W. Lowe, its fossils from the Waitaki River valley district of South Island, New Zealand, preserve important information on penguin postcranial anatomy during the Oligocene diversification of mid-sized penguins.
