Ardenna davealleni

Ardenna davealleni

†Ardenna davealleni was an extinct shearwater from New Zealand, named in honour of naturalist Dave Allen. A medium-sized pelagic seabird and carnivore feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans, it formerly bred on New Zealand's main islands. Its subfossil remains from coastal Holocene deposits document the loss of shearwater breeding diversity following Polynesian settlement and introduction of mammalian predators.
