†Diaphorapteryx hawkinsi is an extinct large flightless rail from the Chatham Islands, New Zealand. Standing roughly the size of a small chicken, this flightless carnivore fed on invertebrates and small vertebrates. It became extinct following Polynesian settlement around 1000 CE, representing one of the prehistoric avian extinctions documented from the Pacific islands.
