†Anthropornis nordenskjoeldi is the type species of Anthropornis, a giant Eocene penguin from Seymour Island, Antarctica. Named in honor of Arctic explorer Adolf Erik Nordenskjöld, it stood about 1.6–1.7m tall and was an apex aquatic predator of the Southern Ocean. Its large flippers and dense bones aided deep, pursuit-style diving for fish and squid.
