This herbivorous or omnivorous ground bird is known from tarsometatarsal material and represents one of the early fossil records of cracid-like birds in North America. Its discovery in subtropical Florida suggests warm-climate forest habitats in the Paleogene.
Diet & Feeding
Boreortalis laesslei was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
