Buteo grangeri

Buteo grangeri

† Buteo grangeri is an extinct hawk from Pliocene or Pleistocene deposits of the United States, named in honor of American palaeontologist Walter W. Granger. A carnivorous soaring raptor of the genus Buteo, it would have preyed on small vertebrates across open North American habitats. Its description contributes to knowledge of Neogene buteonine diversity in North America and the evolutionary history of the hawk lineage leading to modern species.
