Dromornis murrayi

†Dromornis murrayi is an extinct dromornithid (mihirung) bird from Miocene deposits of Australia. These enormous flightless birds, reaching up to 500 kg, are among the heaviest birds ever known. This herbivorous species grazed on tough vegetation in ancient Australian savannas, and its extinction coincided with broad megafaunal losses in the Pleistocene.
