† Asilisaurus kongwe was a Middle Triassic silesaurid dinosauriform from Tanzania, one of the earliest known relatives of true dinosaurs. A small herbivore roughly 1 m long, it walked on four slender limbs and provides key evidence for the rapid diversification of archosaurs in Gondwana some 240 million years ago.
Diet & Feeding
Asilisaurus kongwe was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
Time Period
Asilisaurus kongwe lived during the Triassic Middle period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 247.2 to 237.0 million years ago.
The middle Triassic saw the continued recovery of life and the emergence of early dinosauriforms. Archosaurs diversified into the ancestors of both dinosaurs and crocodilians.
