Calonectris kurodai

Calonectris kurodai

† Calonectris kurodai is an extinct shearwater of the genus Calonectris, known from Pliocene fossil material in the United States. Named in honor of Japanese ornithologist Nagamichi Kuroda, this pelagic seabird was a carnivore feeding on fish and cephalopods at sea. Its description from North American deposits informs our understanding of the historical diversity and geographic distribution of Calonectris shearwaters across the North Pacific during the Pliocene.
