Centrornis majori

Centrornis majori

† Centrornis majori is the type species of the extinct aepyornithid genus Centrornis, known from subfossil material recovered in Madagascar. Named in honor of ornithologist Oldfield Thomas, who worked extensively on Malagasy fauna, this large flightless herbivore browsed on vegetation in Madagascar's diverse Holocene habitats. A relative of the elephant birds (Aepyornis), it disappeared following Polynesian and later human settlement of Madagascar, contributing to the island's Holocene megafaunal collapse.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivore

Centrornis majori was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
