Meroktenos thabanensis

Pachyornis elephantopus was the Heavy-footed Moa, the most robust of New Zealand's moas. At ~100kg with extremely stout legs disproportionate to its body, it inhabited the dry eastern South Island and disappeared ~1400 CE following Māori hunting.

The first true dinosaurs appeared during the late Triassic, including early theropods like Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus. Dinosaurs were still small and not yet dominant. The period ended with the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event.
