†Ardea piveteaui was an extinct heron from Miocene-Pliocene France, named in honor of French palaeontologist Jean Piveteau. A large wading piscivore inhabiting the subtropical freshwater wetlands and river margins of Neogene Europe, it documents the evolutionary diversification of Ardea herons on the European continent during the Miocene warming and subsequent cooling.

Ardea piveteaui was a fish-eating dinosaur. Piscivores typically lived near water sources and had specialized adaptations such as elongated snouts and conical teeth for catching fish.
