† Buteo typhoius is an extinct hawk from Pleistocene fossil localities in the United States, classified within the broad-winged soaring genus Buteo. Its species name may allude to some distinctive morphological feature. As a carnivorous raptor, it hunted small to medium-sized vertebrates over open habitats. The species contributes to understanding the Pleistocene raptor fauna of North America, which included several now-extinct hawk taxa alongside ancestors of living species.
