† Capella anthonyi is an extinct snipe of the genus Capella, known from fossil material of uncertain precise provenance. Snipes (family Scolopacidae) are carnivorous, long-billed shorebirds specialized for probing soft substrates to detect earthworms and invertebrates. Named in honor of ornithologist Alfred Webster Anthony, this species contributes to the fossil record of Scolopacidae diversity in the Quaternary or Neogene and helps trace the evolutionary history of the snipe lineage.
Diet & Feeding
Capella anthonyi was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
