† Tyrannosaurus mcraeensis is a newly described Tyrannosaurus species from the McRae Formation of New Mexico, possibly preceding T. rex by some 5 million years. This older species may represent an ancestral lineage in the evolutionary history of the Tyrannosaurus genus.
