Aepypodius arfakianus, the Wattled Brushturkey, is a living megapode bird of New Guinea highland forests. About 43-47cm long, males build large mound nests of rotting vegetation to incubate eggs using geothermal heat. Fossil relatives of megapodes extend back to the Oligocene. This species is classified as Vulnerable due to hunting and habitat loss.
