Agriocharis anza is an extinct turkey from the Pliocene (~3.5 Ma) of California, USA. A large galliform bird related to modern turkeys, it was recovered from the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park deposits. Named by Miller and Bowman in 1958, it represents an early member of the New World turkey lineage before the diversification of the modern Meleagris genus.
Diet & Feeding
Agriocharis anza was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
