Agriocharis progenes is an extinct turkey from the Pliocene (~4 Ma) of North America. One of the oldest known turkeys, it predates the modern Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) by millions of years. Known from Florida and other southeastern localities, it documents the early radiation of turkey-like birds in North America during the Pliocene epoch.
Diet & Feeding
Agriocharis progenes was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
