Alectroenas nitidissimus

Alectroenas nitidissimus, the Rodrigues Blue Pigeon, is an extinct pigeon endemic to Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean. About 30cm long, it was a frugivore with brilliant blue plumage and bare red facial skin. It went extinct in the late 18th or early 19th century due to habitat destruction, hunting, and introduced predators following European colonization of the island.
