Anas amotape is an extinct duck from the Pliocene of Peru. Known from coastal marine and lacustrine deposits of the Talara region, it was a dabbling duck of South American wetlands during the Neogene. Its discovery in Peru documents the ancient waterfowl fauna of the Pacific coast of South America before the climatic upheavals of the Pleistocene ice ages.
Diet & Feeding
Anas amotape was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
