Anas marecula, the Amsterdam Duck, is an extinct duck endemic to Amsterdam Island in the southern Indian Ocean. A flightless or weakly flighted duck, it became extinct by the early 19th century after European sealers and whalers arrived and introduced cats and rats. Known from both written accounts and subfossil material, it is one of several remote island waterfowl lost to introduced predators.
Diet & Feeding
Anas marecula was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
