Anas theodori, the Mauritius Duck, is an extinct duck endemic to Mauritius. A large, probably flightless duck, it became extinct in the late 17th or early 18th century following Dutch and then French colonization. Known from subfossil material and early traveler accounts, it was one of the endemic Mascarene birds decimated by hunting, rats, cats, and habitat destruction.
Diet & Feeding
Anas theodori was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
