†Ankonetta larriestrai was a plesiosaur (polycotylid) herbivore-adjacent marine reptile from Late Cretaceous Argentina. A long-necked marine predator with paddle-like limbs, it inhabited the shallow Neuquén Sea that covered much of Patagonia. Its fossils provide key insights into the diversity of Late Cretaceous polycotylid plesiosaurs in the Southern Hemisphere.
Diet & Feeding
Ankonetta larriestrai was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
