†Archaeotrogon venustus was an extinct trogon (family Trogonidae) from Eocene or Oligocene deposits of the Quercy phosphorites in France. An insectivorous-frugivorous forest bird with a short curved bill and characteristically colourful plumage pattern (inferred from structure), it represents the ancient European distribution of trogons, a family now restricted to tropical regions worldwide.
Diet & Feeding
Archaeotrogon venustus primarily fed on insects and other small invertebrates. Insectivorous dinosaurs were typically small-bodied and agile, with adaptations suited for catching small prey.
