Three facial horns and a broad bony frill make Triceratops horridus one of the most recognizable of all dinosaurs. Reaching about 9 meters and near 6,800 kilograms, this herbivore was among the last non-avian dinosaurs, sharing the very end of the Cretaceous, roughly 100 to 66 million years ago, with Tyrannosaurus. Othniel Charles Marsh described it in 1889 from near Denver, Colorado. Its horns likely served both to fend off predators and in combat between members of its own species, as healed injuries and damage patterns on some skulls suggest, and its abundant remains make it one of the best-studied ceratopsians.
Triceratops is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs, with its three horns and large bony frill. It was one of the last non-avian dinosaurs, living alongside T. rex. Triceratops likely used its horns for defense and intraspecific combat.

Diet & Feeding
Triceratops was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
Time Period
Triceratops lived during the Cretaceous Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 100.5 to 66.0 million years ago.
The final age of dinosaurs, featuring iconic species like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Velociraptor. Dinosaurs reached their peak diversity before the catastrophic asteroid impact at the Chicxulub crater ended the Mesozoic Era.
