Accipiter quartus

Accipiter quartus is an extinct hawk from the Pleistocene of Argentina. A medium-to-large accipitrid, it inhabited the forests and open woodlands of South America during the Quaternary glaciations. Known from fossil material from Buenos Aires Province, it was closely related to modern Accipiter hawks still found in the Neotropics today.

Accipiter quartus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
