Aechmophorus lucasi

Aechmophorus lucasi is an extinct grebe from the Pliocene (~3 Ma) of California, USA. Related to the modern Western Grebe, it was an aquatic diving bird adapted to freshwater and coastal marine environments. Known from the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park deposits, it is one of several fossil grebes that document the evolutionary history of this diving bird lineage.
