Aimophila ruficeps, the Rufous-crowned Sparrow, is a living passerine bird of arid and semi-arid scrublands from the southwestern USA through Mexico. About 14-15cm long, it is identified by its rufous crown and dark malar stripe. Although primarily living, fossil relatives of sparrows from the Pliocene and Pleistocene document the ancient history of this North American sparrow lineage.
Diet & Feeding
Aimophila ruficeps was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
