Alca

Alca

Alca is a genus of auks (family Alcidae) containing one extant species — the Razorbill — and numerous extinct species. The extinct Great Auk (Pinguinus impennis) was the only flightless member. Fossil species from the Miocene through Holocene document the radiation of Alca-type alcids across the North Atlantic. The genus represents a long evolutionary lineage of seabirds.
