Aletornis pernix is an extinct gruiform bird from the Eocene (~50 Ma) of Wyoming, USA. Recovered from the Green River Formation, this nimble wading bird was adapted to the rich lacustrine ecosystems of ancient Eocene Wyoming. Multiple Aletornis species from this formation suggest a diverse radiation of gruiform birds in Eocene North America.
