Aletornis venustus

Aletornis venustus is an extinct gruiform bird from the Eocene (~50 Ma) of Wyoming, USA. One of the most elegant of the Aletornis species from the Green River Formation, it was a wading bird of Eocene lake margins. The exceptional preservation in the Green River oil shale often retains not only bones but feather impressions and soft tissue outlines.

Aletornis venustus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
