Andalgalornis

Andalgalornis

†Andalgalornis was an extinct phorusrhacid (terror bird) from Miocene Argentina, standing approximately 1.4m tall. A cursorial carnivore with a massive hooked beak and powerful neck muscles, it was among the apex predators of South American grasslands. Biomechanical analyses suggest it delivered rapid, hatchet-like strikes to prey rather than sustained biting.
