†Anthornis melanocephala (New Zealand Bellbird or Korimako) has subfossil records from New Zealand indicating its prehistoric range. A nectarivorous passerine with a distinctive bell-like call, it experienced range contraction following Polynesian and European settlement. Subfossil bones from archaeological deposits document its former presence across both main islands and offshore island groups.
