† Gyps melitensis — an extinct Pleistocene vulture from Malta (Melita) and Greece. Large scavenging carnivore; close relative of Gyps fulvus (griffon vulture). Mediterranean island vulture fauna included endemic or endemic subspecies. G. melitensis became extinct during the late Pleistocene or Hol.
